muddy boots and manicures

What a diverse week this is proving to be! The weather has been foul, the mud is flying around Fern Farm and pretty much everything is wet and filthy!

Last Saturday we had a lovely owners morning, it was great to have so many people turn up and brave the cold and the rain. We took Reality Bites, Man in the Moon, Exclusive Rights and the youngsters Max, Albert and Red up the gallops. I was pleased with how they went and also to welcome some more people joining our Happy Hardwick Syndicate for this season.

Monday and Tuesday were typically manic, Simon clipping away and we were moving the broodmares and getting organised for some new residents arriving this week. We said goodbye to Harry and Anne Lee Warner’s 3 year old Bold Red and Karen and Tony Exall and Greg Moyen’s 4 year old Kayf Tara filly, both of whom I took up to Fergal O’Brien. They have both been part of the Fern Farm family for a long time, we’ve loved pre-training them and having them around the yard and now we look forward to seeing how they get on at big school.

Tomorrow however, I am looking forward to getting glammed up to go to the Point to Point National Awards dinner at Cheltenham Racecourse. I was honoured to be asked to co-host the event alongside Carl Evans and am hoping it goes well. There will surely be big celebrations from teams Ellis and Andrews. Tom won the National Trainers championship and Gina smashed the record of winners ridden by a female jockey in one season.

Looking a bit further forward, we wish everyone with runners (and every horse) the best of luck for the first day of the p2p calendar on Sunday and here’s to a successful, safe and happy season. Cheers.
