point to point training

Point to point is a big part of our world here at Fern Farm. If you’d like to learn a bit more about the origins of point to point and what to expect for a great day’s racing click here. Claire’s start in point to pointing was less than successful, with her first season resulting in a few ‘F’s and some ‘UR’s! She was far from aware of how seriously she needed to take it and how much graft was involved. Luckily for her, some talented and experienced people and some very good horses helped her along the way. So now in the later stages of her riding career she has achieved many goals she never dreamed were possible, including her 100th winner. In addition to Claire’s horses at CHE we are proud to train pointers for our loyal owners and our syndicate horses and we have a large point to point family and support team. From November through until June we enjoy racing most weekends and although winning is the main aim, as long as the horse has run as well as possible and comes home safe we are happy and look forward to the next outing. Our pointers are horses first, racehorses second and each and every one is treated and trained as an individual, with daily turnout and a personalised regime. One of the most rewarding parts of the job for Claire has been training novice riders and their horses and she is a firm believer in a happy mind, for both animal and rider.
