point to point horses in training

Claire introduces the current horses in training, with some background information, hopes and plans for what was to be the 2019/20 season. Things have been very different this year with the season finishing so uncompleted due to the government restrictions. There have been early holidays for the horses and uncertainty about when to resume their work. However we are always looking forward and can’t wait until we can get them all out racing again.

PATRICK AND JULIET WHITE

“Scruffy is quite possibly one of the most frustrating horses I have ever ridden and trained and I say that with real affection because she has so much ability. I absolutely love riding her on her going days, she has speed, jumps superbly and has given us many amazing days out. Even though she has only won twice in her career she has given myself and her owners a lot to smile about. She must have quick ground and many of her bad days have been on over-watered ground so we will be avoiding that at all costs from now on, if we she goes ahead next season.”

PATRICK WHITE

“We bought JJ in 2018 and very unfortunately she sustained an injury to her hock in the November which ruled out last season. Still only a 6 year old with experience under rules over hurdles and fences so we have still plenty of time on our hands. She is a big strong mare who is a real character and a pleasure to have about.”

LADY DULVERTON

“Related to a useful horse called Hildisvini who Charlie Longsdon trained and who was rated 139 at best under rules. Moonie came to us to pre-trainer last summer having been 3rd on debut as a 4 year old in an English point to point when trained by Phil Rowley. He picked up a minor injury once in training the winter before last so didn’t run, He is a real character and has just gone back into work. The plan was to run in an early season maiden, we only managed to run him once so we will see how things look when racing resumes.”

2011 B G MAHLER X SEEDS OF DOUBT

CLAIRE HARDWICK

“Currently owned by me, Reggie was one of our syndicate horses for this season, which unfortunately didn’t really happen. An Irish maiden winner but through no fault of his own got lost in the wilderness and only ran once under rules after that.

He arrived with me in January last year, he took a long time to come to hand. I was thrilled with his 3rd in a Restricted race at Mollington in May and he really improved further, coming back in a different horse and we were very excitied to see what he could do. He is a gorgeous character and everyone loves Reggie! Hopefully he will reward some very patient syndicate members in due course.”

THE MINI DREAMS PARTNERSHIP

“Definitely the most exhilarating ride in a race, she is like a box of chocolates… I never know what I am going to get next! Diva has won us 6 races and been placed many times during the past 3 seasons, giving us many wonderful days out. I am very fond of this pocket rocket, she drives us mad, but we love her to pieces. A dream to ride at home (until we start galloping!) and a real character in the yard. Having a plan with her is impossible but I dream of the Mares Hunter Chase at Cheltenham in May. She stays forever, jumps brilliantly and it would be a dream come true to ride a horse that I’ve trained there. Her early 19/20 season was mixed mainly due to the terrible ground but we always have high hopes for her.

2007 B G
VINNIE ROE X SHAPING

DAVID PRINCE

“The ultimate schoolmaster who everyone loves, he has given George Prince his first ride, first winner, first spin around Cheltenham and many other wonderful days. Joker is tiny by comparison but has a heart the size of a lion and really is the biggest character around the yard.

The aim was to target long distance and novice rider races and he just didn’t get the opportunities in time before racing was suspended.”

Sir Bertie

2015 GR G APPLE TREE X BLUE SPEEDWELL

DAVID AND SHELIA SPEARING

“Albert is a lovely 4 year old who we had through last summer to educate. He has recently had his break and will be back in work soon. His dam won a bumper and Apple Tree has sired many a winner. He has a wonderfully laid back attitude and does everything we ask of him with little fuss. He has quite a character and if we can transform that to the track I am excited about him, he is also the apple of Vicky’s eye.”

Ear-comesbob

2015 CH G  YORGUNNABELUCKY X EARCOMESANNIE

PETER PRITCHARD, BOB STOWE AND ALISON PRITCHARD

“Max is no doubt the biggest 4 year old I have ever seen but incredibly athletic and light on his feet. He went well in the very early stages of his education and at this stage I couldn’t be happier with him, he is a real gentleman with a super attitude and I am really excited to see what he can do.

From a family of winners who all have stayed well so a 3 mile maiden will be on the cards when he gets his chance.”
